Sony gets over exploding battery fiasco
But Playstation 3 continues to flounder

JAPANESE GIANT Sony turned in a big net profit for its financial second quarter but it's based more on sales of cameras, PCs and flat panel screens than its pesky Playstation 3.
The firm made a net profit of ¥73.7 billion on group revenues of ¥2.083 trillion - turning around the ¥20.8 billion loss it made in the same quarter last year.
The
loss last year was partly accounted for by the massive battery recall following
the exploding battery fiasco which happened on its own doorstep.
However, its Playstation 3 division continues to bleed money, and taken on its own accounted for an operating loss of ¥96.7 billion.
Bravia fat panel screens, Vaios and its digital cameras and VCRs continued to sell well. µ

The PS3 losses amount to about $480 million.

Compare that to the 360's $1.1 Billion reserve for repairs, and the $6 Billion todate that the Xbox division has lost, and Sony looks in reasonable shape.

The 1/4 shipments of 1.3 million PS3's is also quite tidy, considering it's traditionally a "lull" quater, and this coming quater will be much more specataculr, what with Xmas, and the PS3 new pricepoint.

Where the hell are you getting $480M from?! 96 Billion Yen is $840M The X360 is losing money, too but no need to be a fanboy and obscure the facts. They're BOTH money losing dogs.
The Microsoft EED posted a profit this quarter ~ $160million nad that $1.1billion is pretty much all forgotten, 

What's more telling is that Those Sony losses aren't just for the PS3, but the whole gaming division which means All the fat profits Sony are milking from the PS2 and PSP are being absorbed into the massive losses of the PS3.
