Sony Ericsson signs up to VoleWare

Snubs Symbian
Monday, 11 February 2008, 10:49

MAKER OF mobile phones, Sony Ericsson has released a new handset aimed at the web convergence market using Microsoft's operating system.

The Xperia X1 will launch in the second half of 2008 and uses Windows Mobile instead of Symbian it partly owns.

Sony Ericsson executives claimed that it was not about the operating system but the 'user experience' which is odd because many 'user experiences' are dictated by the software.

Associated Press said that the Xperia X1 had the look and feel of a Sony Ericson including its patented nine-panel interface, but the lot had been built on top of the Windows.

An executive from the outfit, Steve Walker said Microsoft Mobile was the " ideal" platform for the X1, and he did not say that any subsequent handsets in the Xperia sub-brand would be based on Microsoft.

No indication how much the phone will cost.
