Sleepless New Yorkers partying at games marathons

The LAN lies down on Broadway
Wednesday, 13 July 2005, 08:27
THE International Herald Tribune said that it has noticed a trend among 30 somethings in the big Apple to go for three day benders playing computer games.

Apparently, while LAN parties have been fairly big in Asia, the idea had not made much impact in the US, which had been traditionally dominated by video arcades.

However, what the paper dubs "LAN orgies" are now popping up all over the Big Apple. They are also popular in New Jersey, California and Dallas.

The paper says that New Jersey ia fast becoming the capital of the genre for the northeastern states. One of the country's biggest LANs, the GXL, is a three-day orgy for 500-people.

Most of the games are first person shooters. One of the organisers, who dresses for the part, admited to the Times the three sleepless night sessions have ruined some of his relationships.

Must cut down on his ability to watch Star Trek re-runs too. µ
