IDF 1U boards are go

SUPERMICRO HAD THREE neat toys at IDF, the aptly names 8014T-T, 6015V-TLP and the 5015M-MF+.

You can probably already figure out what they are by the names, but I will go into it in detail anyhow.

Supermicro-8014t-t

The 8014T-T is a 1U 4S Tulsa box, basically the almost holy grail for Intel fans. I say almost because it will only take the 95W variant, so the fast and large cache variants are not showing up here. It is better than it's predecessors by a long shot, so definitely a step in the right direction.

The next one they have is a low voltage Woodcrest board based on the Blackford-V. This 1U 8 FBD board will support 4G of memory across two channels. It may not be the speediest thing out there, but it only sucks 170-180W on load, less at idle, and that is for the whole machine. They call this the 6015V-TLP for obvious reasons.

Last up, we have an odd one, the 5015M-MF+, a 1U half depth computer that is perfect for all of you with lots of shallow racks. This one is based on Conroe, I mean Xeon Core Mono 3xxx or whatever it is called this week. In any case it is quite a cool little box. µ

Do you think the move was justified?
