Dell gets another kicking from HP

Market share falls further
Thursday, 19 April 2007, 17:37
MAKER OF TIN BOXES, Dell is getting a real kicking from the maker of printer ink HP, according to the latest market analysts' reports.

HP, who is still the world's number-one PC maker, saw PC shipments rise 28.2 percent in the first quarter, compared with the same period a year ago.

Meanwhile Dell, which had the top slot last year saw its shipments sink by 6.9 percent worldwide, causing its market share to contract from 18.2 per cent to 15.2 per cent.

According to IDC all makers of PCs did well in the first quarter thanks to the release of Vista. This meant that the hardware makers did not cut their prices to get the increased numbers.

The gains meant HP widened its lead over Dell, which has been dogged by customer service complaints and slow US sales. More here. ยต
