Wed Apr 16 2008, 10:01

MOBILE PHONE builder China Techfaith said Wednesday that it has signed up Egyptian firm Quicktel to develop and assemble low cost handsets there.

Quicktel is a fixed and mobile telecoms network provider in the Middle East and Africa. The mobile telecommunications markets are growing fast in those areas. Quicktel's existing manufacturing base will let it quickly ramp up production of affordable handsets with features adapted to those markets.

The handsets will be built using Qualcomm technology licenced by Techfaith. µ
