Al Capone's business card said he was a used furniture dealer
The big idea is to form a crack team of pirate bashers who are first in and last out. FBI agent Andrew Myers and the MPAA have trained six Swedish police officers on how to effectively combat piracy and catch people who engage in illegal downloading.
Zeropaid points out that this is the same Andrew Myers who told an E3 panel last year that it was impossible to stop piracy, but if you target the sources in the companies that rip off the material in the first place you tend to do a bit better.
Myers and the MPAA's apparently told Swedish coppers all the rules and regulations governing copyright enforcement and piracy, and gave them examples of anti-piracy initiatives in other countries that have already proven effective.
The training course has been attacked in Sweden, which has a fairly vocal group of pirates. Sweden's Pirate Party is miffed that it was not given the opportunity to provide a counterbalance at the training seminar.
A Swedish National Police Academy was asked if she thought there was a conflict of interest by having a private interest group such as the MPAA involved in the training of enforcement personnel.
She didn't see any, but was also unable to provide other cases in which an industry group, or foreign government, was invited to give training on how to enforce its particular agenda.
Sheesh and kebbab. ยต
