Xbitlabs brings the S3 Gamma Chrome S18 Pro graphics card to its labs and brings us the conclusions. Not so good apparently. While it bests the X600 Pro in many instances, its lack of stability and the presence of artefacts on most games makes it a poor choice for the gamer. Improve or get lost seems to be the message.
One review from PC Magazine. They have a dirty quick preview at the new Dell Inspiron 9300 which comes with Windows XP MCE OS. It has loads of goodies and nicees as well including an easily overclockable Geforce 6800GO which can reach 400/405 for core and memory. And you get a 17-inch screen as well. For $2869, not a bad deal. But what will be your reaction when you'll find that you can buy almost three AMD 64 4000+ laptop for that price. The HP R4000 series laptop might not have any review right now but for $1054 - it doesn't skip on features - 15-inch TFT screen, 32MB ATI Radeon XPress 200M,60GB HDD, 256MB HDD, Wireless LAN etc.
Tomshardware has launched a new tool for gamers and neophytes alike. The CPU Charts allow you to compare two on a particular benchmark and giving you a graphical representation as a result. Nice. Hope it will be extended to Dual processors, mobile ones as well as to graphic cards in a not so far future. Sapphire has allowed THG to peep into its latest innovation. The Sapphire Select DVD which should end the flood of poor-quality software bundled with graphics cards. In this case, you are allowed to choose which games you really want. Wouldn't a voucher be more useful in this case?
The Gigabyte Radeon X800 is reviewed at Bjorn 3D. Its main particularity is that it features a silent-pipe rather than a noisy fan as main cooler. The card has a core clocked at 400MHz and a memory clocked at 490MHz, well above the normal range. Silent it is, performance though depends on the software being used
PC Perspective reviews the Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 840 processor review. Running at 3.2GHz compared to the 3.8GHz isn't much a problem for this power multi-threaded monster. But it's very hot and expensive and requires a new PC to work. µ
