SONY introduced a number of products here in Vegas, the most notable being an 11-inch OLED screen available now through Sony Style stores. The display while small does have a striking picture and is only 3mm deep.
Other notable announcements include a partnership with Wayport that allows Mylo users (a portable Sony Internet access product) free access at over 10,000 Wayport locations. This includes participating McDonalds restaurants so now you can surf for free while you get fat on McDonalds Fries.
A unique introduction at the press conference really isn’t a new product but instead is a modular connectivity for the Bravia line of flat panel TV’s. Branded DmeX, it will allow modular add-ons for Bravia TVs.
Currently there are four modules planned including the Bravia Internet Link, Bravia DVD Link (which incorporates a DVD player into the display) Bravia Connect Link (which adds three HDMI ports to the TV and finally the Bravia Wireless Link which allows up to four devices to wirelessly stream HDMI information through provided dongles.
Finally, the Sony press conference included the introduction of ‘Rolly’. Rolly
looks like an egg when off, but quickly resembles an ostrich chick trying to
escape it’s shell to the beat of Play that Funky Music.
The device rolls around in time to the beat and has light rings around it. It is about the size of an average fist and we have no idea who would buy it. µ
