First gropeable interface devices from Eleksen

Squeeze to shoot
Wednesday, 19 February 2003, 08:53
REBOUNDING FROM THE LOSS of a potential contract to supply Sendo with foldable keyboards for its now defunct Z100 smartphone, Eleksen has announced a similar deal with four Orange subsidiaries across Europe. These ElekTex keyboards are made from a special fabric which enables the whole thing to be wrapped up to resemble a soft leather wallet.

The keyboards are designed to fit Orange's Smartphone based SPV. However, the company claims it is a world leader in 'soft interface' technology so that the fabric could be used to produce a wearable keypad which would fit around the wrist. A spokesman for Eleksen, warming to his subject, argued that the technology could be exploited in previously uncharted territories.

The fabric can be mounted on rubber so that squeezing a 'joy stick' would trigger an electrical impulse to fire a gun for games, for example. We're not quite sure if he intended to head the company off into the direction of teledildonics, but he did admit that creating the world's first 'gropeable' interface would be more than just feasible. The keyboards can be seen on Microsoft's stand at 3GSM, Cannes. ยต
