GOOD OLD HP is set to put a spring in everyone’s step this Monday as it prepares to raise UK distribution prices for its desktops, laptops and servers.
As if this isn’t bad enough, some of the other big system vendors, including Acer, are expected to imminently follow suit.
The global rise in the cost of doing business alongside the recent weakening of the pound against the dollar has caused vendors costs to increase by the sum of 10 percent recently – as most components are denominated in dollars.
Dave Poskett, of HP, confirmed that prices would rise for all products in its Industry Standard Server and Personal Systems Group portfolio.
Poskett said, “We will finalise over the next couple of days what the increases will be, but they are likely to be in the mid to high single digits. It will vary by specific product categories."
Poskett did, however, manage to salvage the fact that prices will remain unchanged for its printer and storage ranges – for now at least.
Barry Dodhia, of VAR Hemini, explained, “If HP is doing it, all the others will do it very soon. The exchange rate is killing the vendors as the dollar against the pound has strengthened from about $2 to $1.75 in the last three months.”

I remember them being quick to put prices down when the dollar was weak against the pound.

Oh, hang on...
That's strange because I don't remember the prices going down in the first place when the pound was strong against the dollar. I must have missed that.
