Intel to shut Hudson fab

Two years left
Mon Apr 23 2007, 15:22
INTEL IS GOING to shut the Hudson fab, one of the last vestiges of the Alpha legacy. This is a sad day for all computer history buffs.

We hear the fab has two years left, but it was not specified if that time is the beginning of the end, or the end of the end. Moles in Santa Clara tell us that this is due to the building not being upgradeable to the latest processes, so it has outlived it's usefulness.

No word on the fate of the teams based there, there are Itanic and chipset people, possibly more. I would think Intel would move them versus disbanding them, so it is not all doom and gloom. µ
