IT IS NOT FIRST TO target the home desktop storage market and even Iomega says that not everyone wants a 1TB storage box but it has launched one anyway.

Its latest four drive XL Series box has the following:

Four 250GB SATA drives, each running at 7200 RPM with 8MB cache;

Configurable as RAID 0 (striped) for maximum throughput

Dantz Retrospect Express software

It runs Windows 2000 Pro, and XP home and professional. “Users of the new 1TB Iomega Desktop Hard Drive XL Series can store up to 18,500 hours of music, 4,000,000 photos, or 1,500 hours of video,” the firm said.

Connection is through FireWire 800, FireWire 400 or USB 2.0 (backwards compatible with USB 1.1).

Out for Christmas its footprint of 6.42" x 7.99" x 12.52" (W x H x L) is easy for wrapping.µ
