Intel talks about Montecito server chip

And CMOS radio thing

AS YOU'D EXPECT, Intel had something to say at the current solid scale conference as well as Sony and IBM.

It unveiled some of its plans for the 24MB dual core Montecito, which will ship at 2GHz and have 1.72 billion transistors.

The chip will consume 100 watts and Intel claims that it will ship this year, with its original equipment manufacturing parts already testing machines using the chip.

As we've written before, Montecito will also come wit Foxton, Vanderpool and Pellston, and use something Intel calls demand based switching.

This dynamically reduces processor power consumption depending on demand/load, and works with the operating system.

Intel also showed off more of its radio technology, including a 1.4 volt, 5GHz four channel multiple antenna receiver on 90 nanometre CMOS.
