Nintendo can't stop breaking sales records

Gaming round-up Month of Wii mods
Mon Dec 24 2007, 10:34

THE NINTENDO DS has broken the previous UK weekly hardware sales figure twice over this month, shifting 185,000 consoles in the first week and over 200,000 in the second.

The Wii also sold over 100,000 units last week, demonstrating that there's still a decent supply of stock even if there isn't quite not enough to satisfy demand. Additionally the Wii is thought to have surpassed the Xbox 360's installed base in the UK this month, reports Gamesindustry.biz.

Wii/DS
Nintendowiifanboy has a reflective and critical look at the Wii, which may not be good reading for you Nintendo lovers.

Instead of slagging the Wii, we've spent our time collating a series of interesting Wii mods, but first check out the guy who gets wood when ever he sees his SNES. This Wii modding attempt is a bit more futuristic, whilst this Darth Vadar Wii is just plain cool - but very expensive.

Alternatively you could mod your web page for the Wii using this newly released publicly available Opera SDK.

A clip at Gizmodo shows a Wiimote being used to 'make a whiteboard out of anything'. The site also demonstrates a headtracking simulation through the Wiimote, creating an 'amazing 3D window on the world'.

Check out Eurogamer's usual Wii Virtual Console round-up.

Xbox 360
If, like many others, you have a broken 360 hanging about, how about modding it into a PC? Pictures can be found here.

If you've got an older 360 without HDMI it may be possible to update it. CrunchGear has the solution you require.

PS3/PSP
The recent PS3 and PSP system updates comes with an unannounced feature - the ability to remotely play any PS One game on the PSP.

A PS3 2.10 firmware update was released this week, adding a voice changer feature to voice/video chat, DivX and VC-1 (WMV) codec support to video playback, and picture-in-picture features to Blu-ray disc playback.

A PSP 3.80 firmware update was also released, adding Internet radio compatibility, along with the unannounced feature above, Gamesindustry.biz confirmed.

Joystiq has an interesting side-by-side comparison and documentary of the PSP God of War's clock speed ramp, which is good viewing for all PSP fans. µ

Darth Vader Wii

It's pretty likely that Darth Vader Wii is a fake, if you look at the eBay listing the pictures of the Wii remote that supposedly comes with it are pictures of the prototype Nintendo released back when they first announced the "Revolution". The way to tell is to look at the buttons and their labels which are different compared to the final Wii remote design.

Plus, would you send $15,000 to an eBay seller with only 31 feedback?

Cool for the PS3

"The recent PS3 and PSP system updates comes with an unannounced feature - the ability to remotely play any PS One game on the PSP."

Final Fantasy IX comes to mind. I am going to give it a try just to check it out and see if it works. I won't play it on the PSP, why when I have that big A5S HD TV to view it on. Need something though until FF XIII releases and Enchanted Arms does not cut it for me.
Merry Christmas

Your DS sales figures are from VG Chartz

...which is good. If you look back at VG Chartz 's data and compare it with commercial tracking agencies like Media Create, NPD or Chart Track, VG Chartz has similar figures but different enough to prove a balanced, independent coverage. VG Chartz had an undeserved bad reputation because it was small and independent, but I'm glad to see The Inquirer using its figures in conjunction with other sources.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
