Wikipedia released on CD

WIKIPEDIA is to release 2,000 of its articles on a CD so that it can be read off-line.

According to More newsfactor.com, the CD will contain a fraction of the 1.7 million articles in the English language.

It will emphasis on geography, literature and other topics that won't change and will shy away from current events and controversial subjects. As a result, the CD will be a 'higher quality' than the online version and although all the swearing has been removed, volunteers did not have time to "verify all the facts".

A spokesWiki said that a cleaned version should appeal to teachers worried about displaying pages that might contain foul language. It will be flogged for The CD is available for $14 (EU10.30) plus shipping through the project's Web site. Funny thing is that although the site is called wikipediaondvd.com the project is on a CD so even its trade description is inaccurate. They should use the Everywhere Girl on the cover. µ
