Robot suit to create "super" men and women

All tin man needs is a heart
Wednesday, 8 June 2005, 11:38
A REPORT FROM AFP claims that a 15-kilo battery powered robot suit will bring strength to human beings when they start flagging through age or infirmity, or because things are too heavy to lift.

The wire said that the HAL-5 will pick up messages from the skin and then amplify them although no doubt the suit needs a bit of training first.

Although the report has a picture of the suit, it is not sufficiently detailed to show exactly how much of the skin surface is covered.

But it quotes a Japanese boffin as saying it can turn humans into supermen soon. Now if the tin man only had a heart. Because that's what distinguishes a superman or superwoman from the human ordinaire.

Story and pictures, here. µ
