YouTube safe in analyst's hands

Forrester flip flops

A WEEK after a Forrester analyst said that YouTube was doomed, another analyst in the same outfit has said it isn't doomed at all.

Writing in his bog last week, Josh Bernoff said that YouTube was similar to Napster which was also as popular and would be sued into the ground by the entertainment business.

However this week, another Forrester Researcher, Ted Schadler has said that there were many ways that YouTube could survive.

Schadler said that YouTube could cut lots of deals quickly to turn it into a legitimate video destination. It also needed to strike a deal with Universal to see if there's a way out of a forthcoming legal action. Finally, YouTube should lobby hard for copyright protection, publicly and visibly at the site to get its users on side.

This could be enough to stop YouTube will heading down the gurgler, Schadler said. Of course it is confusing for those who expect Forrester analysts to sing from the same hymn sheet.
