AMD Turion notebook disappoints

Hardware Roundup (fixed!)
Thu Apr 28 2005, 07:37
PC MAGAZINE claims the first AMD Turion notebook review. The Acer Aspire AS5000 costs only $1099 direct and boasts a 64bit processor, 512MB DDR memory and a 60GB hard drive on top of a DVD writer. PCMag seems to prefer the Dell Centrino-based Inspiron 6000 because it is less expensive, has more life battery, performs better and weighs less.

Malaysian site VR-Zone checks the MSI P4N Diamond board which comes with the nForce 4 SLI Intel edition chipset. The feature list is nothing short of breathtaking. Four DDR400 slot, 8-channel Creative Labs SB Live onboard sound, DAC/ADC hardware controllers, six SATA II controllers, Wireless PCI card included and 10 USB ports. Floppy, the reviewer, has only good things to say about it.

They have also reviewed another motherboard, the Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI which also comes with a nForce 4 SLI but for AMD this time. Almost the same features as for the Intel edition above except for the sound and DAC. But this one leaves floppy's hands with some critics. Poor overclocking and fixed chipset cooler.

More motherboards coming your way as TT-hardware, a French website, compares three nForce 4 motherboards, two Ultra and one SLI, from MSI, Asus and DFI. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. A very complete one page review.

The Asus Extreme n6600GT TOP is caught on camera at Xtremeresources. Asus makes no less than three 6600GT card. The card seems to have a thermal problem though if I believe Mr Icee. With some luck and patience he achieved some very good overclocking,

Bjorn3D checks out some AC RYAN modding products which are getting a number of reviews all over the interweb. Products on display include the ConnectX kit deluxe, a DIY conductX kit chain, sleeving equipment plus some more interesting additions. Good stuff indeed.

Dan of Dansdata sends us some news of 1U rackmount servers that Aus PC market sent to him. No benchmark there for these fine Tyan GS12/GX21 transport servers. BTW, they are Xeon-based machines.

Yet another graphics card test, this one from Hexus. The X850XT PE from ATI and a X800XL from Club3D, both in AGP format. The X800XLis now almost available in decent quantities and at a more than competitive price. However, no overclocking but something tells me that the X800XL is should overclock nicely.

Also I would like to know if anyone has seen a review of a cheap dual Xeon Rig (2.8GHz/800MHz FSB/i875P) floating somewhere around the web? µ

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
