Sun licenses tech to ARM

Hundreds of patents

SUN SIGNED A wide ranging patent licence with ARM today. While specifics were not discussed, they involve hundreds of patents covering a range of topics

The range of patents licensed are CMT, graphics, IO, memory and power management, specifically thread management for power savings. This is not a licence for specific Sun products, just technologies in the broadest sense.

This deal is the second such licence that Sun has signed lately, the last being Marvell a few weeks ago. That one involved a much narrower range covering some Neptune NIC related technologies.

It looks like Sun is on a roll here, actively trying to make money out of its technologies. The opening of Sun is starting to pay more and more dividends. µ
