Stratus offers VoIP in a box

Instant triple play operator kit
Wednesday, 18 July 2007, 12:38
YOU CAN'T set up as a new VoIP or triple play (VoIP, Internet and TV) operator and run the risk of the network going down. So Stratus has hit on a new market for its fault tolerant servers.

It's created what of Stratus' Richard Appleton has described as "VoIP in a box." Basically what it's done is acquire clever comms software by buying Emergent Network Solution back in September 2006.

The software - known as Entice (Emerging Network Telecommunication Infrastructure Environment) has been ported to Status' Ftservers. Emergent used to run its code on Dell servers.

Ftservers are Xeon-based boxes running Red Hat Linux combined with Stratus' continuous processing technology. The net result is that a new operator can get up and running very swiftly.

Indeed one of Stratus' first customers for this combination, a cable TV company in Mexico, has been able to offer triple play services to its customers within six months.

Appleton revealed that the latest version of Entice (2.5) doesn't have any particularly new features - it's just a straight porting job.

However, when Entice gets to release 3.0 in October they'll be plenty of interesting fancy stuff. ยต
