Tuesday, 20 May 2008, 09:52

TAIWANESE GIANT Hon Hai's PC OEM Foxconn will build a 32,000 square meter plant in St. Petersburg, Russia in a $50 million joint venture with HP.

HP will be the major customer of Foxconn's new Russian facility, expecting to ship up to 40,000 PCs per month, but Foxconn also hopes to produce products there for other customers as well.

"Russian demand for the latest PC technology is developing quickly, and HP sees increasing interest from consumer and commercial customers," said Eric Cador, HP's SVP, Personal Systems Group EMEA, in a statement. "This project will help us meet local customer demand by enabling HP to deliver products quickly and competitively in Russia."

Foxconn's new Russian plant will complement a new HP facility in India and existing Foxconn PC manufacturing sites in Brazil and the Czech Republic. ยต
