ATI in "two launches in one year" shocker

Radeon 9500 launch date appears
Tuesday, 8 October 2002, 20:40
IF ONE ATI paper launch this year wasn't enough for you, the word is that we'll see another - that of ATI's Radeon 9500 GPU within a week.

Scheduled for launch on the 15th, ATI's board partners are remaining very tight lipped on the subject, except to say that when the GPU does arrive it will be targeted squarely at the segment of the market currently occupied by the likes of NVIDIAs GeForce4 Ti4200 GPU.

Based on the same R300 core as it's elder brother the Radeon 9700 Pro, Radeon 9500 will share the same eight-pipeline architecture and DX9 support, as well as an unfortunately rapidly-expanding bug-list, such as the one on Rage3D's forums.

Don't worry though - we're sure they can pull the proverbial rabbit from the hat and deliver a driver which will fix four of this years top games in the next week or so. Actually on second thoughts don't reach for the visa just yet. µ
