NHS computer boss failed IT exams

Grassed up by his mum

NHS IT boss Richard Granger was so bad at computer studies in college his mum had to appeal to Princess Anne to ask for Bristol University to cut him some slack, it's claimed.

According to This is London, Granger's mum Mary Granger said Richard failed his computer studies exams while at Bristol University and was only allowed to resit after she wrote to Princess Anne.

Mary Granger is amazed that her son was put in charge of a £20bn project to transform the NHS's computer system. She is less surprised that his 'Connecting for Health' project is over-budget, behind schedule and threatening to become the biggest IT disaster in history.

His mum says that after Richard stuffed his IT course he took a year off and was allowed to resit. In the end he gave up on computing and got a 2:2 in Geology. After working as a geologist in Singapore and Australia, Richard went onto Andersen Consulting and then became a partner at Deloitte and Touche, says the Standard.

He was then snapped up for £280,000 a year to become the head of the 'Connecting for Health' project.

Mary Granger is fighting to keep her local maternity hospital open. She said that if the Government had not given her son so much cash to play with, there would be more cash to run the local hospital.
