Philips creates A4 colour e-paper

Future not black and white
Mon May 14 2007, 08:31
THE DAYS of electronic paper coming in two colours, black and white, could be a thing of the past.

Apparently LG Philips boffins have come up with the world's first A4 sized colour electronic-paper.

The e-paper, measuring 14.1 inches across its diagonal is 300 micrometres thin and can display up to 4,096 colours. The paper only users power when the image changes on the display.

Chung In-Jae, chief technology officer and executive vice president, said in the statement said the technology will allow punters to create new products that are not only convenient to use but also save natural resources.

LP Philips developed flexible black-and-white e-paper in October 2005 and a 14.1-inch follow-up - which matches the most common copy size - in May 2006. Products have been few and far between so far.
