Console chips boost IBM Microelectronics business

BIG BLUE'S second quarter earnings were aided and abetted by its semiconductor division, the firm said.

Revenues soared by 45 per cent in the quarter, with IBM attributing that success to making CPUs for consoles.

The firm turned in total revenues of $21.89 billion with net profits of $2.02 billion, but it's hard to compare these results with the equivalent period last year because its PC division was sold to Lenovo.

IBM has $10 billion in cash, it said. µ
