Intel brings forward Tigerton launch

Baah to AMD's Barcelona
Wed Aug 29 2007, 12:00
A REPORT said Intel has brought forward its plans for its quad core Tigerton Xeon MP to next week, as a spoiler in its battle for server market share with AMD.

News.com said it will show off its Tigerton chips a week today with the formal launch a week tomorrow.

The server market is one of the most lucrative for the X86 chip makers and there's no doubt Intel wants to stem advances AMD Intel-and-amd-are-joined-at-the-hiphas made in that space. AMD has not helped itself by delays with its Barcelona processor which have caused much shaking of heads and gnashing of teeth in the financial analyst community.

Tigerton is just the first of a whole spate of announcements Intel will make this autumn - it plans to release its 45 nanometre Penryn chips probably in November. µ
