Nvidia bloke packs his bags

The Way You're Meant To Resign
Wednesday, 2 May 2007, 10:34
TOP GREEN BLOKE Darryl Still is to leave the company, says another top Green bloke.

Darryl was responsible for Developer Relations in Europe, meaning he was the chap that got to go and tell all the games devs just how awesome Nvidia was, and how much cash support the studio could get for joining the TWIMTBP scheme.

Darryl was rather successful at this, as Nvidia's logo programme reaches into the furthest corners of old Europe, with small developers like GSC, as well as the big boys like EA.

His departure means that Nvidia is hiring someone for its new Content Business Development team, and the changing of the guard could mean that ATI finally has a chance to break some of those relationships and get an elbow in. Well, it could, if it could tell it's arse from its elbow at the moment. Getting products out the door appears tough enough for DAAMIT, let alone lining up content to go alongside it.

Nvidia has managed to use its cash and resources to get a very significant mindshare in the game developer community, and this translates to a lot of consumer awareness - witness the Nvidia logos that precede a good many top PC games these days. However, this is not always a good thing.

Famously, Eidos' latest Tomb Raider incarnation was branded beyond belief with TWIMTBP text, but failed to work on a number of the latest Green Team boards, while performing perfectly on Radeon. This was rather an own goal in an otherwise successful drubbing. ยต
