Microsoft "eats its own dogfood"

How much is that doggie in the window? Woof woof

THERE'S A SUPER-DUPER article in today's Seattle Times -- an interview with Microsoft VP Rick Devenuti. He's in charge of Microsoft's internal networks but in his own lingo "eats his own dogfood".

That means, says the article, that Devenuti has to use Microsoft software in the 3,000 strong group he heads and it won't go out of the door until his division gives it the say so.

"Five Nines", says Devenuti, is a "ridiculous concept" because it means five minutes a year downtime. It doesn't make sense, he reckons, to get to five nines but it does for ATM machines, which he says "better be up".

(See Downed Windows ATM - the pictures).

And why has he a PC running Red Hat Linux in the corner of his office? Because he wants to watch the competition. Microsoft can't pretend Linux doesn't exist.

Here's the article. ยต
