Sony brings organic LED to US

Small and expensive
Monday, 7 January 2008, 08:49

MAKER of exploding batteries, Sony is to start flogging organic LED televisions in the US later this month.

According to the press release the televisions will be only as thick as 'three stacked credit cards' which we have all had happen to us at one time in our lives.

The screens on the XEL-1 will be small, although it is not often you hear 11 inches being considered pokey. The outfit is showing of a 20 inch version at the Consumer Electronics Show this week in Las Vegas.

They are also pretty expensive. The XEL-1 will set you back $2,500 which is odd because it sold for $1,700 when it was launched in Japan in December.

Well...

Yep. Well, not that hard, but in general it should be:

US: $2500
EU: €2500 (net~EUR2100 which is about $2800-$2900)
GB: net $2800-$3000.

it's like with the PS3: GB+EU: ~400EUR which is about $470 net and a net price of $400 in US. That this the standard "LET'S RIP THOSE EUROPEANS OFF"-tax.

Flatscreen TV costs

On a recent trip to the US I noticed that any given LCD/plasma TV was approx. half the price it is in Australia, after factoring in currency conversion.
Australia is also a lot closer to the countries making these screens than the US (which should mean lower shipping costs) so someone, somewhere is ripping us off too......!
