Gainward to ship NV45s

Geforce 6800 Ultra PCIe in its hands

GAINWARD SAID it has finally got Geforce 6800 Ultra PCIe chips in its mitts. We know that all Taiwanese based companies have been waiting for NV40 chips for some time. Gainward was able to get NV40 chip running at 350 MHz and use them for the Geforce 6800GT AGP or PCI Express but not for the Ultras.

The Ultra chips that run at 400MHz arrived in January at the end of the month 6800 Ultra PCIe cards are finally taking shape. The printed circuit boards (PCBs) for the NV45 are done and dusted. Nvidia's partners have breathed a collective sigh of relief which you can probably hear if you switch off your Audigy PCI Express card and listen.

Some companies, such as Point of View, said that they have some of the cards in retail already but they have just limited quantities. Gainward has altered Nvidia's reference design and therefore needed a bit more time but the firm now claims to offer more performance than the bog standard versions.

Two Geforce 6800 Ultra PCIe in SLI setup could be the fastest graphic that you can plug into your PC and Gainward can even offer them water-cooled. For a price of course. µ
