Even Microsoft is feeling the pinch

Ballmer admits he's not immortal after all
Tuesday, 30 September 2008, 18:03

MICROSOFT’S CHIEF EXEC, and gentle sensitive soul Steve Ballmer has announced today that the global financial crisis will hurt many companies – even the untouchable Microsoft.

Ballmer pointed out that Microsoft has a lot of business with both the corporate and the consumer sectors meaning that whatever happens to the economic state it will, without doubt, impact the company.

Microsoft is safe from complete financial crisis though, as the losses, although impacting will not completely cripple the company and its vast resources of cash.

However, Ballmer also admits that the less money a business has, the less it can borrow or spend, which is never a good thing.

Following a sharp slide yesterday, Microsoft shares rose 3.3 percent to $25.84 following a broader US market rebound.

Although Ballmer may have been merely highlighting his interest and knowledge of this problem, from an investor’s point of view his remarks come as an indication of Microsoft’s loss of revenue in the continuing crunch.

Ballmer hopes, that things will be sorted by the end of the week, although this is exactly what he says it is – a hope.

Global stocks fell today after the rejection of George Dubya's $700 billion plan to bail out his banking buddies, but the US and European markets later recovered. µ

Who Cares

Of course Microsoft is going to feel the pinch. Hell, their Vista product with all the DRM (47+ programs that collect data and report it back to Microsoft (spy on you) not to mention WGA and other parts of the OS), and they can't figure out what's wrong? They can't get it through their heads that we don't want to have to deal with constantly worrying about their monopolistic practices?

Microsoft is suffering because their products are the suck and they abuse their position in the market and, worse, we know about it.

This is becoming interesting

First MS wakes up to the fact that, globally speaking, people do not like Vista, and now it has to face the fact that there is going to be even less money available to buy/upgrade the computer configuration that can run the bloated pig.
From where I sit, that means that Vista uptake is going to slow down even more.
So yeah, Monkey Boy should be worried. Vista plus market crash is going to put Vista sales figures six feet under, and the MS marketing department is going to have to whirl at supersonic speeds to make enough hype to keep the DRM infestation going.
I'll count this as a good side of the financial disaster we're all in.
At least there will be one.
