Virgin offended by b3ta.com posters

Viral marketing gives Virgin the sniffles
Thu Oct 26 2006, 19:48
APPARENTLY a go at viral marketing by Virgin's PR lot went awfully wrong when they challenged the posters of infamously hilarious b3ta.com to come up with a catchy advert containing the word "yes."

Virgin was well and truly warned about the nature of the site by b3ta contact Rob Manuel, who explains the whole ordeal in this thread. Virgin, once it saw some of the entries (warning, mildly not work safe!), decided that maybe this wasn't the best idea in the world.

A few Xbox 360s were up for grabs to the winners of the competition, but, as poster Keyboard Weasel puts it, "I think they figured that we'd rather have prizes than take cheap shots." Not so, Virgin, not so.

The idea's been pulled off successfully before, however, with Brit TV station Channel 4 contacting b3ta about its Alternative Christmas. Virgin was awfully quick to remove any traces of the competition, and has requested its deletion. ยต
