Vodafone unveils phones for the poor

From 25 bucks
Mon May 21 2007, 16:10
VODAFONE has lifted the lid on a pair of phones it reckons are cheap enough for poor people to have.

The Vodafone 125 and 225 models are manufactured by Chinese firm ZTE and will cost between £25-$45 when they go on sale on in Egypt, Romania and South Africa over the coming weeks.

A Vodafoney, Jens Schulte-Bockum, global director of terminals, claimed the handsets would, "help enfranchise millions more people across the world, giving them good-quality, attractive handsets, with popular features and functionality, at a reasonable price".

He gave no indication of any cheapo tariff to go with the phones. µ
