OLED display numbers soar

A MARKET research firm said that organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays grew to 14.2 million shipments in the second quarter of this year - that's a jump of 82 per cent year on year.

Revenues for the displays, which compete with TFT LCD screens in small and medium sizes, amounted to $124.8 million.

In terms of suppliers, Samsung remains top of the pile with revenues of $37.2 million, followed by RIT Display at $28.1 million, Pioneer at $19.6 million, Univision at $14.1 million, LGE at $6.5 million, and the others worth $19.2 million.

As far as applications go, the top five are subdisplays, MP3 players, car audio, main displays and auto consoles.

OLED displays hold an impressive 42.2 per cent share for MP3 players. µ
