Busy Box case not settled

GPL still on trial
Wednesday, 26 September 2007, 08:43

CLAIMS THAT the lawsuit against Monsoon Multimedia for violating the GNU General Public Licence would be settled out of court are premature.

Although Monsoon has agreed to bring its product into compliance with the GPL, it seems that briefs acting for Busybox are still not happy.

According to Linux.com, Daniel Ravicher, legal director of the Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC), which filed the suit on behalf of BusyBox, said no agreement has been reached.

He said simply coming into compliance after the fact is not good enough because it means that anyone can violate the Open Sauce licence until caught.

Most cases like this have been sorted out before anyone got to court. Now it seems that the SFLC is less forgiving and might want to make an example of Monsoon. ยต
