Kurt Vonnegut is dead

So it goes
Thursday, 12 April 2007, 09:07
FAB WRITER Kurt Vonnegut has died, at the age of 84.

Vonnegut's writing was shaped by his experience as a young soldier in Dresden during the fire bombing of that city in World War II.

He escaped incineration because he was entombed in the basement of a slaughterhouse but emerged to find the fine European city devastated. He subsequently wrote a fine book about his experiences, Slaughterhouse 5.

BBC Radio 4 has an interview with him on its website, here. ยต
