DISSIMILAR SERVICES Myspace and Skype announced yesterday that their users will be able to exchange phone calls and chat messages without charge beginning in November.

News Corp.'s Myspace and Ebay's Skype twittered that Myspace users will be able to use Skype's Voice over IP (VoIP) Internet telephony service and that both services' users will be able to chat with each other using their respective service's instant messaging (IM) facilities.

Social network wibbling service Myspace claims to have 110 million users, most of whom are US teenagers and young adults. VoIP and IM service Skype says that it has 220 million registered users, mostly adults in Europe. Both services have seen rapid growth.

Myspace will provide Skype with an expanded potential user base into which to sell its revenue generating voicemail, call forwarding, and incoming Skypein and outgoing Skypeout switched telephony services. The companies didn't reveal the terms of the deal. ยต
