Microsoft iPod-spotters rattle their cages

Volepod Argo set to break surface
Tue Jul 11 2006, 17:08
FURTHER NOISES have emerged from sources in Seattle concerning Microsoft's breach into Apple's iPod territory.

And the story is there will be line up of digital-media products launched together under the Volename of Argo - a reference to the warship used by Jason and his pals in Greek mythology.

An iPod-type device that plays the media, a software media player and an online media service for all of you DRM-infected media file requirements, will be launched simultaneously under an Xbox-branded banner.

The VolePod is Wi-Fi enabled, giving it an instant upper-hand against the majority of standard-issue media players out in the shops right now. Interestingly, an XNA debut has also been muted for the device, linking heavily with stories that the media player will also function as a capable games playing machine. µ

Blurry pics from Engaget and other sites have been replaced with photographs of claimed final mock-ups of one of the volePods. More here from Brier Dudley of The Seattle Times.µ
