China seen tooling up with cyberweapons

US Defence department warns
Tue May 29 2007, 13:49
THE US DEFENCE Department claims that China is building weapons of cyber destruction including special military units and viruses.

In a report, quoted in PC World, the Department of Defence claims that the People's Liberation Army continues to build cyberwarfare units and develop viruses to attack enemy computer systems as part of its information-warfare strategy.

Chinese armed forces are developing ways to protect its own systems from a similar enemy attack, it said.

The moves are part of China's ongoing military modernisation efforts which the US claims are focused on Taiwan.

The report claims that the Chinese will bring Taiwan to its knees with cyber attacks, undermine the country's morale and confidence in its government.

If the US backed Taiwan it would also be a potential target, the report said. More here. µ
