Monday, 29 January 2007, 09:22
HARDWARE OUTFIT NEC has developed a device which it says can tell the difference between a human or a machine on a voice over IP connection.

According to ITWire, the SPIT (spam over Internet telephony) blocker, has been dubbed VoIP SEAL, and is being shown off at next months 3GSM congress in Barcelona.

NEC claims that it has worked out a Turing test using a three stage approach to detect and block SPIT calls.

Before connecting the call VoIP SEAL detects and blocks the unauthorised access based on the communication pattern.

NEC says that 99 percent of SPIT was detected and blocked, preventing users from receiving unwanted calls. µ
