More Dramurai go to jail over price fixing

THREE EXECUTIVES from Samsung will do porridge in a federal jail after they pleaded guilty of fixing prices on memory modules.

That follows an investigation by the Department of Justice (DoJ) into a price fixing cartel, with the three hapless Samsung execs also paying fines of $250,000 each. Samsung itself agreed to divvy up $300 million as a fine in a cartel which included Hynix, Infineon and Elpida.

Micron, an American Dramurai, turned queen's evidence and escaped with a light rap on the knuckles.

The men who will serve time include the senior manager of DRAM sales and a sales director based in Germany.

It's a dangerous job being a computer executive these days - apparently like war criminals it's not enough for computer executives to say they were just obeying orders. Staff working for Hynix and for Infineon will also find themselves in a US clink over the cartel investigation. µ
