850 Watt PSU tips up

A FEW MONTHS BACK we wrote about OCZ 600W Power Supply Unit. At that time we were shocked to see that there are PSUs capable of providing 600W but now that doesn't seem to be that big a deal. You can check Charlie's report about this nice piece of hardware here.

Now, PC Power and Cooling Inc., have gone one better and announced a 850W PSU model. The unite will even provide 950W at peak power, just 50W off the whole one kilowatt mark. You can catch some additional details about this 850W PSU here.

A reader pointed us to this monstrous PSU after reading our G70 power report that you can find here. He suggested that you might need one to have two G70 cards with SLI.

If you do the sums, and assume thatthe G70 needs 200W, that means that two cards alone will drain 400W and you will need almost as much to make the rest of the machine stable. I guess that 600W might do the job but a little bit more can never hurt.

I guess that 850W should be enough for all of your power=eating components and I am very sure that SLI certificate sticker could just extend to future G70 cards in SLI as well. We are very close to the mark where your PC will actually consume more power then average home heater. Those PCs and PSUs will definitely affect your power bill and help warm up the planet. µ
