Pentium III-D reviewed

WHILE INTEL'S COPPER technology Pentium IIIs using the .13 micron process have been around since May, the outfit has kept quiet about the desktop and server versions because today is its big day to launch the mobile notebook versions. However, over at Tech Report, reviewers are taking lookie at the 1.2GHz version of the Pentium III together with pix and benchmarks. It's clear that the Pentium III-S/D work pretty well on some of these marks, and as the INQUIRER has reported before, kick butt under certain conditions.

The same beast gets a look in at Anandtech, with not wildly dissimilar results.

We believe the Pentium III desktop chips, which only have 256K cache compared to the grownup server Pentium III-S processors, are due for widespread release on the 6th of August, although their role in the overall scheme of Intel roadmaps is very limited.

Tom's Hardware looks at a cheapo $17 device which performs a useful little disk selection role, here.

At [H]ardOCP the lads test the Asus A7V266 motherboard and find it hits the sweet spot.
