Slicethepie vs Lemonrock

A FLEDGLING web site, Slicethepie, is helping to create new music tycoons by offering them the chance to trade in unsigned rock bands.

At present Slicethepie is offering trades in just three bands: Gilkicker, The Alps and The Skies. Gilkicker's shares have gone up while The Skies' have moved down.

The idea with Slicethpie is that you listen to tracks posted by new bands on its sites. Then, when one of them gets popular enough, the site offers people the chance to invest in the band and fund them to produce a record.

We happen to think that the only real way to discover new musical talent is to actually go to see the bands playing. So it recommends the St Albans-based site, Lemonrock, which carries details of all the gigs it can possibly find.

You can feed your postcode into Lemonrock's search engine and find out who's playing near your home.

Given that music is one of the UK's major exports, you'd have thought new talent would receive a bit more support, wouldn't you? µ
