DDR 3 for desktops to come late 2007

Computex 2006 Dramurai holds its horses

DON'T hold your breath for the next memory standards. Despite the fact there are some engineering DDR 3 memory samples floating around, it won't be until 2007 till you see this new memory in action.

Intel just released its Q965 chipset and made its own mind up and said that DDR 2 up to 1066 is good enough, while AMD also supports DDR 2 up to 800MHz officially, but it can overclock much higher than that.

The Dramurai still has to earn the money from DDR 2 so the firms won't move that soon to DDR3. Intel's next chipset is scheduled for middle 2007, roughly a year from now and this is the right time for the birth of DDR 3 chipsets for the masses.

DDR 3 should take off at PC 8500, DDR 1066MHz speed but the spec is yet to be finished so this could easily change. µ
