Windows Essential Server Solutions tip up

Admit it - you never knew they were essential, did you?
Wednesday, 20 February 2008, 15:33

IN A BID TO HELP small businesses, [surely 'make more money? - Ed] Microsoft has today launched Windows Small Business Server 2008 together with the less-snappily-named Windows Essential Business Server 2008 for midsize companies.

"There are 31.9 million small businesses and 1.2 million midsize companies worldwide in need of powerful IT solutions and they typically have very small IT staffs, or none at all," says Bob Kelly, corporate vice president at Microsoft.

Windows Small Business Server 2008, previously known as Cougar, is aimed at organisations with up to 50 PCs, with simplified server and PC backup and one-year trial subscriptions to Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server Small Business Edition and the new Windows Live OneCare for Server.

Microsoft can surely afford to hire someone to come up with some snappier names… oh, hang on…

Windows Essential Business Server 2008 for midsize companies (WEBS2K8FMSC) is aimed at organisations with up to 250 desktops, helping IT professionals take control of their systems, reduce time spent "fighting fires" and focus more on strategic efforts to drive business growth.

PR Bunnies...

Well have you ever seen the PR staff that gets hired? These people have zero technical skills and no work experience in an IT organization.

In one case I had a PR bunny put the laptop I gave her on a table and asked me how she could tell which side was up. She didnt want the stuff falling out.

Another could only type with one finger - her right pointer finger.

Seriously, we hire people like this (which are almost always 22 year old slim females with blond hair) and wonder why we get this syrupy run on of technical babble that makes no sense.

And of course their 40 something manager (male) tells them how great they are at it.

But they are good to look at....
