Thai promise to restore Youtube lacks substance

Site now redirected
Monday, 2 July 2007, 13:01
REPORTS FLOODING IN from Thailand state that Youtube is still unavailable in the country, despite government promises to restore access.

Our humble reporter came in for a pasting from an INQUIRER reader who, on Friday, said that Youtube remained unavailable in the country and we should have verified the claims of Information and Communications Technology minister, Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom, before running the story.

Now, another faithful reader from Thailand, Jim, writes to report that, "It is now July 2nd, around 5:30 pm, here in the "Land of Smiles" and Youtube is still missing in action five days since your errant declaration."

Sheesh kebab!

Youtube fell foul of the Thai authorties after a video appeared on the site dissing the King of the country. The authorities consist of a military junta established after premier Thaksin Shinawatra was booted out of office. He fled to pastures new and last week bought Manchester City Football Club.

Our Thai sauces report that the Youtube page no longer displays "ACCESS DENIED". Rather, the URL redirects to a Google search page. ยต
