HP cuts over 3000 EDS jobs in UK

Scrapheaped
Thursday, 9 October 2008, 10:48

HP SAID it is to cut 3,378 jobs in its UK EDS operations after buying up the company (Electronic Data Systems) last year.

The company is culling some 24,600 jobs globally. You have to wonder what EDS was doing that HP wasn't.

HP displayed a nice turn of phrase with its statement: "Where possible we will redeploy impacted individuals." Unfortunately in some 24,000 impacts no redeployment looks possible. It's the scrapheap for you, me hearties, but at least our share price will go up.

The Commercial Services Union (PCS) is up in arms. It said this would happen and now it has. But no-one listens to unions any more. Especillay not that 'socialist' Broon.

“Our worst fears have been confirmed. We feared 3,000 job losses for the UK, and the figure is even higher," Jim Hanson, a PCS national officer for EDS, said. µ

I think I speak for everyone....

when I say "Oh.. those poor EDS workers, and after all that hard work they put in on the NHS, and HM Customs, and... er... actually, **** those thieving lying incompetent tossers. Good riddance." Now if we can do the same to the civil servants that approved EDS's contracts, we'll be well on the road to recovery.

Whining Unions

Oh, these unions need to stop whining. Job reductions, movement, losses, etc., are a part of business. If the unions are so incensed by the terminations, then the unions should pay the terminated employees' salaries for the next five years.

Doug Adams was right, again.

Too bad we can't do what the Golgafrinchams did. But we'd be sure to keep at least one telephone sanitiser around.

WTF? - You clearly understand sweet FA. EDS has delivered massive improvements to aging government systems in my 10 years and as for C&E or NHS, you'd better go see FJ or Capgemini. Now there are some quality companies

Some Bloke Needs to Buy a Clue...

He's right on as far as getting rid of the imbeciles that entered into those EDS contracts, but hasn't a clue how most people end up working for EDS and outfits like it.

But if there's any justice he'll find out for himself soon enough.

Poor victems

Whilst there must be some good people at EDS (Like Big Si)
Most of the muppets I worked with (especially those bought in sourced through transitions) were useless.
That’s why I left, couldn’t stand it any more, and CapGemini were even worse!
