A $42.5 MILLION wodge of wonga has been set aside to settle a class action suit brought against Fujitsu and others over faulty hard drives supplied to PC-buying customers.

The out of court settlement allows customers who bought the faulty drives or PC containing them to apply for compensation. The law firm which brought the action has made an application form to pitch for a piece of the pie, available in a pdf here.

The document states that the lawsuit asserted that the "HDDs contained a defective computer chip and a bug in the controller software which resulted in the failure of the HDDs at unacceptably high rates and/or problems with data integrity."

The 3.5in drives that failed in great numbers are in the MPG3xx range. Owners of such drives that have failed or lost data can read the pdf for information on how to receive compensation. ยต
